VOSS Workshop Participant Information

 

Getting to Cleveland, Ohio

Fly into Cleveland-Hopkins International Airport. Please do not make your own flight arrangements. Instead, use the University of Georgia’s travel service. Contact Meredith Dewald (706-542-3341, mdewald@uga.edu) with your details and she will set up your account.

 

Getting to the Hotel

We will supply shuttles to the hotel for participants. Please communicate flight arrival times to Meredith Dewald (706-542-3341, mdewald@uga.edu), and she will coordinate shuttle times .

Or you can find your own way via taxi or rental car, which will be reimbursed for invited participants. (Parking is available at the hotel; we do not recommend public transportation to this location):

Getting to Case Western’s Peter B. Lewis Building

The DoubleTree Hotel is adjacent to the Case Western campus, and participants can walk to the building in ten minutes.  If you prefer, shuttles will also be available in the mornings.

Timing

The first day of the workshop is critical to the overall program, therefore participants will be expected to arrive on May 14th.

The workshop will wrap-up by 1 PM on May 16th, and shuttles will be provided to the airport. Participants should comfortably make flights out after 3 PM.

Additional shuttles will be provided after the paper sessions, and flights after 6:00 should be safe to schedule.  If no flights are available, inform Meredith Dewald (706-542-3341, mdewald@uga.edu) and she will arrange accommodations for one more evening.

CANCELLATION POLICY IS 24 HOURS OR WE GET BILLED FOR THE ROOM which means contact Meredith IMMEDIATELY if your plans change and you cannot make the focus group.

 

Expenses

Invited participants will schedule hotel, air travel, and shuttle schedules with Meredith Dewald, and the costs for this travel will be covered. Other expenses incurred during travel will be reimbursed. The hotel provides free Internet access to guests. Also, invited participants will receive a stipend of $500 for attending (contingent upon getting the appropriate information to Meredith).

Things to do in Cleveland

Cultural: Case Western Reserve University is located in the city’s cultural hub.

  • Cleveland is home to the internationally acclaimed Cleveland Symphony Orchestra. Participants arriving a day early may be interested in enjoying Stravinski’s Firebird at 3 PM on May 13th at Severance Hall on the campus of Case Western Reserve University.
  • The (also internationally acclaimed) Cleveland Museum of Art is adjacent to the Case Western campus. The museum will host a special “Rembrandt in America” exhibition during the month of the workshop.

Cleveland Indians Baseball: Participants staying for the evening of the 16th might enjoy a baseball game at Progressive Field – the Cleveland Indians will host the Seattle Mariners at 7 PM.

Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame: Finally, if arriving early or staying late, participants may wish to visit Cleveland’s Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame.
