“Leading Cyberinfrastructure Enterprise” Workshop

Cyberinfrastructure (CI) enterprise refers to ongoing provision of CI support and services for scientists, engineers and scholars who need such support and services in the conduct of their work. The concept is meant to include large national or regional CI centers (e.g., NSF funded HPC centers), organization-based centers such as those often found in universities and companies (including domain-specific centers and centers that are part national research laboratories), and ongoing support and service enterprises serving communities that do not normally think of themselves as centers (e.g., those serving high energy physics, seismic studies and engineering, and other major projects).
This workshop has two objectives:
- To bring together CI leaders with organizational researchers to focus on issues associated with leading CI enterprises, including: sustaining CI organizations; understanding and communicating value propositions for CI; and making the case for CI organizations.
- To gather specific needs to be addressed at special seminars and “science executive education” courses for CI enterprise leaders that will be produced later in 2013 and beyond.

This workshop is one of a series of workshops funded by the NSF Office of Cyberinfrastructure (Award # 1148996 and #1240160) to build community and enhance leadership of cyberinfrastructure centers. The workshop will take place in the University of Michigan’s North Quad Building (Space 2435), which is an blended learning and residential hall – a combination of innovative learning and living spaces. Participant will be lodged at the Campus Inn luxury hotel across the street from the facility.
